One gateway · the whole farm

Your printers, online in five minutes.

The Farmit gateway is a small program that runs on a Raspberry Pi or on a computer that is always on in your farm. It talks to every printer in your network and keeps Farmit.io up to date, without opening a single port.

Where should the gateway run?

Two good options. Both need to be in the same network as your printers and stay on while you print.

Recommended

Option 1 · Raspberry Pi

A Raspberry Pi 4 or 5 (2 GB is plenty) with Raspberry Pi OS Lite 64-bit. Uses about 3–5 W, runs all day, sits next to your printers.

  • Set and forget: it starts by itself after a power cut.
  • Under 45 kWh of electricity a year, quieter than a printer fan.
  • Your main computer can sleep, travel or reboot for updates.

Raspberry Pi 4 or 5 with 2 GB RAM or more, Raspberry Pi OS Lite 64-bit, a 16 GB+ card, Ethernet or Wi-Fi.

Option 2 · A computer you already have

Windows 10 or 11, macOS 13 or newer, or a Linux machine with systemd (a mini PC, a NAS VM, an old laptop). The gateway starts with the system, before anyone logs in.

This computer must always be on. If it sleeps, shuts down or a laptop lid is closed, Farmit loses the printers until it wakes up. Set sleep to “Never” while plugged in.

  1. 1

    Install with one command

Sign up, open Setup and pick your system. Farmit writes the command for you with a one-time pairing code that is valid for 15 minutes.

  2. 2

    Add your printers

The gateway finds Bambu Lab printers in your network. For Prusa, Klipper and OctoPrint printers you give their address. Each printer appears in Farmit within seconds.

  3. 3

    Print from anywhere

Add a file to the queue and press Start. The gateway sends it to the printer, starts it and reports every layer back.

Terminal on the Raspberry Pi
$ curl -fsSL https://farmit.io/install.sh | sudo bash -s -- --cloud-url https://farmit.io --token fge_…
Farmit gateway installed. Paired as “farm-pi”. Starts at every boot.
$ sudo farmit-gateway printer add --host 192.168.1.50 --serial 01P00A… --name P1S-1
✓ P1S-1 connected · idle · 24 °C

Example. Your own command, with your address and pairing code, is on the Setup page after you sign up.

Built for a printer room, not a data centre

Outbound only

No port forwarding, no VPN, no fixed IP. Works behind any home or office router.

Passwords stay local

Access Codes and API keys never leave the gateway. Farmit.io never receives them.

Exactly once

Every command is journaled: a start that arrives twice runs once, and a file is checked before it reaches the printer.

Camera on demand

Live view from Bambu Lab printers through the gateway, up to one minute per view. Nothing is recorded.

Questions

Does the computer with the gateway have to stay on?

Yes. The gateway is how Farmit reaches your printers. If the computer sleeps or shuts down, the printers show as offline in Farmit and new jobs wait. A print that has already started keeps running on the printer. That is why a Raspberry Pi, which uses about 3–5 W, is the easiest choice.

Do I need to open ports on my router or have a fixed IP address?

No. The gateway only makes outbound HTTPS connections to Farmit.io, like a web browser. Your printers are never exposed to the internet.

How many printers can one gateway run?

All printers in the same network, mixed brands included. Your plan sets how many printers the farm can have: Starter 2, Pro 10, Farm unlimited.

Does Farmit see my Bambu Lab Access Code or printer passwords?

No. You enter them on the gateway and they are stored only there, readable by the system account. Farmit.io never receives them.

What happens when the internet goes down?

Printers keep printing what they started. The gateway reconnects on its own. A command that expired while it was offline is not run late; start that job again from Farmit.

Is the camera recorded?

No. The gateway relays the camera only while you watch, for up to one minute per view, and then stops by itself. Frames are passed through, not stored.

Can I move the gateway to another computer later?

Yes. Install it on the new computer with a new command and add the printers there. After you revoke the old gateway in Settings → Gateways, the printers move to the new one and keep their history.
